As Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, prepares to celebrate its 65th anniversary, the institution has recorded another major milestone with the appointment of one of its distinguished alumni, Professor Segun Aina, as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved Aina’s appointment to succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
The appointment has generated excitement within the Obafemi Awolowo University community, particularly as the institution marks 65 years of academic excellence and national impact.
Aina, who clocks 40 in July, is set to become the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB and one of the youngest professors of computer engineering in the country.
His emergence is widely seen as another testament to OAU’s long-standing reputation for producing leaders across strategic sectors in Nigeria.
Before his appointment, Aina was a Professor of Computer Engineering at OAU, where he built a strong reputation in digital systems, examination technology, and educational reforms.
Ironically, his relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service Corps days when he served with the examination body and gained firsthand experience in its operations.
Years later, he returns to head the same institution.
Aina holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom. He also obtained a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
He further attended the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
Over the years, he has consulted for major examination bodies including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board on issues relating to examination security, digital processes, and systems optimisation.
He is also a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
For many alumni of the university, Aina’s appointment represents more than a personal achievement. It is being viewed as a symbolic moment for OAU as it reflects on its contributions to national development over the last six decades.
As the university counts down to its 65th anniversary celebrations, the appointment of Professor Segun Aina has further strengthened the belief among members of the Great Ife community that the institution’s tradition of excellence remains firmly alive.
